Your Remote Transmitter Batteries Are Dead

If your garage door doesn’t respond at all when you press the button on your remote, it’s likely just the remote that’s not working. This is the best-case scenario. If you have the right type of batteries on hand simply swap out the old for some new ones and you’ll be on your way. If you don’t have the right type of batteries, you can close the garage with the wall transmitter and use another exit until you can get the batteries replaced.

Something is Blocking the Garage Door’s Path

If your garage door was installed after 1993, it has a safety feature to prevent the door from closing if anything is blocking its path. Be sure to check for any objects on the ground. Something as small as a broom handle can prevent the door from closing.

Your Garage Door Sensor is Out of Alignment

If you garage door opened without issue but won’t close, your garage door sensors may be out of alignment. Most sensors will have a solid green light when properly aligned. If the light is red, yellow, or blinking, you will need to adjust them. Check the alignment with a tape measure and level and adjust the sensors until they are aligned. The sensors must be lined up exactly to work and can be a bit tricky if you’re not a garage door technician.

If the door won’t close at a specific time of day, it could be because of the way the sunlight is hitting the sensors. A technician can help you adjust placement to fix the issue.

Your Track Is Out of Alignment

If your garage door is coming down slowly and gets stuck, your track that supports the weight of the door may be misaligned. This garage door repair is complex and dangerous. Reach out to your local, trusted service technicians at Larry Myers to schedule an appointment to have your track repaired.

If you can hear your garage door motor when you press the button on your transmitter but your garage door doesn’t close, your garage door spring (or springs) may be broken. Whether you have extension springs, torsion springs, or torque tube springs, the replacement can be dangerous and should be handled by a professional.
