KXL 101 PDX Radio Featuring Larry Myers Garage Door: Around the House with Handyman Bob

At Larry Myers Garage Doors, we’d like to thank Handyman Bob and the team at KXL 101 radio for featuring us on the show, “Around the House with Handyman Bob”. We enjoyed having the opportunity to help homeowners with common issues by providing garage door advice. If you missed the show, you can listen to it right here on our blog. In the meantime, check out some of the topics we discussed below.

Garage Door Design
Garage door architecture and design elements can add beauty and value to any home. However, it is important to consult with an experienced designer in order to prevent problems caused by unnecessarily heavy materials and poor installation.

Cold Weather
In the areas we serve, Portland and Vancouver, cold weather and garage doors often clash. However, with simple maintenance such as lubricating tracks and rollers every six months, you can avoid problems such as unstable opening and closing, poor operability and sticking.

Garage Door Keypad
One caller on the show was unable to change her garage door keypad. Since codes can be difficult and time consuming to reconfigure, we recommend having a professional come out and install a new system as a cost effective alternative.

Tune-Up
Once every five years, we recommend having a professional perform a tune-up, which should include lubrication, spring adjustment, and balancing.  You should never adjust torsion springs on your own because they are under extreme pressure which can result in serious injuries. If your door is overdue for a tune-up, get in touch with us today.

Operability Issues
If your garage door won’t open, the problem may be a broken spring. Likewise, if it doesn’t close properly, the light sensors may be out of alignment. If your door is crooked or leaning to one side, you may be facing a spring assembly issue that requires professional intervention.
